I am writing this as a series of posts about my experiences integrating furry 4 legged kids into a blended family - similar to those of humans. It is reality based and I hope it will bring a smile or perhaps a laugh from my readers. It's a great place for me to share the joys as well as the challenges I have encountered.

Janet "Is To Fat"
Janet went to the Vet for a routine visit and we were told she "Is To FAT!" I was not surprised but quite hesitant about putting her on a diet - you see Janet is addicted to food and should really be a member of Over Eaters Anonymous! (they don't have a group for dogs). I voiced my concerns to the Vet, she dismissed them by saying "this is the owner's fault - you feed her too much and you are killing her with kindness!" Wow, that was harsh but she was right. The diet food came with a 1 cup measuring bowl and the directions were simple 1 1/2 cups a day - treats were totally forbidden. We were afraid VERY afraid! In the morning the new diet started Janet who inhales not chews her food finished in record time - looking for more. The look on her face when she stared into her bowl was "empty, none under the bowl, next to the bowl, WHERE is it" - reminded me of the commercials where the dog is searching for bacon. Then she had an ephiany - Maggie's ROOM! - she barreled down the hall, misjudged the corner and slid right into the wall knocking over the water and squishing Leilani. Janet shook it off and headed right for the food of course Maggie went into protective mode, standing over it growling. Before the brawl began I picked up the bowl wondering what we were in for as the diet world turns.
