I am writing this as a series of posts about my experiences integrating furry 4 legged kids into a blended family - similar to those of humans. It is reality based and I hope it will bring a smile or perhaps a laugh from my readers. It's a great place for me to share the joys as well as the challenges I have encountered.

A Learning Curve
During the transition of living alone with Maggie and Leilani to living with 2 adults, 3 dogs and 1 cat - a HUGE leap to say the least! I was recovering very slowly and trying to organize the animals. It's very funny now but totally not at the time. There I was with my walker trying to herd a 70lb Jackson into his kennel so Maggie and Janet could go out - Maggie would run into the kennel, while Jackson was trying to hump my leg and Janet ran back inside to eat Maggie's food. Months ago I put Leilani's litter box inside the extra tub out of Janet's reach. (I always wondered what would happen when clumping cat litter got into one's intestine??) Finally, I figured out the best way to get Jackson in his kennel was to put a treat in and quickly shut the door...this worked all of one time after that he would go half way through the door and then wait. So I'd sit on my walker and wait until the level of his drool was ankle deep and he gave in. Usually by that time Janet had pooped on the floor and Maggie had her legs crossed. It took about a month of patience, cussing and laughing before he just began to comply - making my life much EASIER!
