I am writing this as a series of posts about my experiences integrating furry 4 legged kids into a blended family - similar to those of humans. It is reality based and I hope it will bring a smile or perhaps a laugh from my readers. It's a great place for me to share the joys as well as the challenges I have encountered.

Old Age Bumps - Oh My!
Maggie was getting her morning massage when I noticed a small growth on her back on further exam she had one under her left front leg and 2 more on other parts of her body. They seemed to be on the surface of the skin like a mole or skin tag. I called the Vet and he told me that sometimes dogs get growths on the skin as they age - not unlike people. He said "given her age" they were probably normal. About a week later she was in for routine shots and he visually confirmed what he had originally thought. I was a bit taken a back - Maggie is SO playful and still acts like a puppy it's hard for me to think of her as old. He reminded me she's 8 years old - going on 9 and although smaller breeds live longer they still have signs of aging - because she is physically fit and fed an extremely good diet she has energy to spare and is in very good health. It still made me a bit depressed - the thought of her aging but he assured me she should be around a long time. I am looking into some of the diets out there for dogs that are prepared at home instead of store bought foods - any recommendations - comments would be GREATLY appreciated!!
